Former Jewish Orphanage

Former Jewish Orphanage

The former Jewish orphanage in Leiden, now the Leiden Health Centre, has been completely restored using FINEO vacuum glazing. The former Jewish Orphanage or the Central Israelite Orphanage and Transit House on the Roodenburgerstraat in Leiden has been documented on behalf of the municipality of Leiden. The building was designed in 1927 by the architects B. Buurman & M. Oesterman on behalf of the association 'Machseh Lajesoumiem'. The building was built in yellow Frisian brick in a functional architectural style. Due to the detailed application of masonry and protruding details, it has many characteristics of the Amsterdam School. A unique building for Leiden in terms of form and architecture. More than 1,000 FINEO glazing units were installed to replace the original single-glazed units. Thanks to the thinness of our vacuum glazing, the old wooden frames, meticulously restored, could have been preserved, providing enhanced insulation performance and optimum thermal and acoustic comfort.
